Lakes Spring - 4/5th March
A weekend of orienteering in the Lakes, organised by the same team as the Lakeland Warrior weekend (Masterplan Adventure in collaboration with WAROC), and with generous help from SROC after the cancellation of their event on Sunday 5th March.
Saturday 4th March - Middle (UKEOL) - Blind Lane
A middle distance race at Blind Lane, in the South Lakes. This race is perfect preparation for the JK middle just 1 month later.
Entries on SiEntries: https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?event_id=11243 (now closed)
Parking: Forest roads. Toilets: Portable toilets x6. Start Times: 11:30 - 13:00
UKEOL courses (Black and Brown) will have allocated start times (see top of page). Other courses punching start within allocated 30min blocks.
Assembly, Start and Finish all within 1km, see final details.
Previous Map: Blind Lane 2020-11-01 (routegadget.co.uk)
Courses (all around 5% climb)
Black 4.6km M18,20,21E
Brown 4.2km W18,20,21E
Blue 3.8km
Green 3.5km
Very Short Green 2.3km
Orange 1.8km
Yellow 1.4km
Notes on courses:
Due to lower-than-anticipated entry numbers, Short Blue and Short Green have been absorbed into Blue and Green respectively.
This is a middle distance event. Please enter a course that you would expect to complete in under 75 minutes (i.e. about 200% of the winning time).
The area is tough and course lengths reflect this.
Very Short Green avoids the roughest terrain and is also suitable for M/W14s. If you would normally run Light Green this course is very similar and nothing to be frightened of!
Sunday 5th March - Long-style (UKEOL) - Loughrigg
A long distance style race on Loughrigg, with a little twist which we hope you enjoy!
Entries on SiEntries: https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?event_id=11391 (now closed)
Parking: Public CPs in Ambleside. Toilets: Public toilets. Start Times: 10:50 - 12:00 (shortened slightly).
UKEOL courses (Black and Brown) will have allocated start times (see top of page). Other courses punching start within allocated 20-30min blocks.
(Early: 10:50 - 11:10, Middle: 11:10 - 11:30, Late: 11:30 - 12:00)
Assembly, Start and Finish all close together, 1.1km (+140m) from Rothay Park in Ambleside.
Previous map: Loughrigg Galoppen 2022-04-24 (routegadget.co.uk). There are now even more small paths than shown on this map.
Courses (all around 5% climb) Map (explained below)
Black 7,5km Natural features (M18,20,21E)
Brown 6.7km Natural features (W18,20,21E)
Blue 5.1km Natural features
Light Blue 5.1km (Blue but with full map)
Green 4.2km Natural features
Light Green 4.2km (Green but with full map)
Short Green 3.6km Full map
Orange 2.3 km Full map
Yellow 1.5 km Full map
Notes on courses:
The planning is long distance style - the focus is on longer legs and route choice. To make this more interesting, navigationally challenging, and different to previous events (Loughrigg is a well-used area) the longer courses will use a map showing only "natural features" - basically the paths and (ruined) walls will be removed. This is common at events such as OO Cup and should not cause any unfairness as the terrain is entirely fast and runnable. The uncrossable walls and fences will still be shown, and only crossed at crossing points.
