Culross Sprint 2019
In association with KFO's Dunfermline event
This is a low-key event with the focus on good maps, good courses and bare-bones organisation.
There will be support available from the local club (Kingdom of Fife Orienteers) for newcomers and beginners, so please do come along if interested!
We hope you all enjoy this brand new area for orienteering, a former Royal Burgh with many buildings now under the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
"Step into the past along the cobbled streets of one of Scotland's most picturesque villages, with its own palace and abbey"

Date - Saturday 23rd March 2019
Venue - Culross, Fife (postcode of Culross Palace opposite Assembly is KY12 8JH)
Directions - Please approach from Longannet to the west (ideally) or else Low Valleyfield to the east. Please do not approach down the narrow public road from the north that runs through the competition area.
Parking - Please park in the public car park at the west end of the village (Assembly/start/finish is located here). If possible please approach from the west, rather than along the narrow road through the village - help us minimise traffic through the conservation area and on roads used by the courses.
Assembly/start/finish - These are all in and adjacent to the western Car Park. There are public toilets adjacent to assembly but no changing facilities or orienteering traders are available.
Food traders - there are several cafes and a pub in Culross, please do give them your custom after your run.
Clothing - There are no restrictions on clothing.
Map - Newly surveyed for this event by Graham Gristwood using sprint specification ISSOM. 1:4000 with 5m contours.
Starts - 11:30 - 12:30. No pre-allocated start times.
Courses close - 13:30
Courses - Long (optimal distance 3.9km, 170m climb, 20 controls)
Short (optimal distance 2.9km, 155m climb, 15 controls)
Planner's Notes
This is a previously unused and challenging area for sprint orienteering.
Courses are predominantly on paved or cobbled surfaces, although there will be some grassy sections and softer footpaths. A couple of these footpaths are steep and may be slippery if muddy.
There is significant climb on the courses.
Culross village is a 20mph zone but does see some traffic so u16 Juniors cannot run unaccompanied, sorry.
SI-air punching will be used.
Officials - Planned and organised by Jon Cross
Entries - Online entries now closed, on the day subject to (limited) map availabilty. Seniors £6, Juniors/Students £4.
Non-BOF/SOA members £2 supplement.
